Getting Creative
Look at what you already have in the room and identify what your favorite objects are. Is there a pillow, a painting, a fabric on a piece of upholstery, or anything that you could use as a source of inspiration? You can select paint colors off of any of these things. Using swatches from your paint store, create a color palette of 3 colors from your source of inspiration. Then decide which color you would prefer to be dominant and which color you would like to be secondary. The third color is an accent color.
Designers usually don’t try to match colors exactly. It works best to vary the shades of a color you are using so that the walls can compliment or blend with what is in the room.
- Besides using a source of inspiration, it’s good to think about the feeling you want the room to convey. Here are few tips to help you with that.
- Warm saturated colors are very welcoming and are used to create cozy, lived in looks.
- Light cool colors are serene and fresh and are used in both contemporary and traditional designs.
- Strong hues can be exciting and are excellent accent wall colors.
- Shades of the same neutral color can create a classic look that will flow through the house.
Any shade of green can be used to bring the outdoors indoors. Nature is often the best inspiration of all. There are so many ways to use color to express the changes you are desiring. Picking the right colors will give your room a whole new life. |
